WE CAN DO SOMETHING

Organize a Neighbourhood Food Drive

Crowd Resourcing

Hold a mini-food drive to leverage the power of the citizens of Chatham-Kent. Every little bit helps, and the generosity of the masses adds up. Join a neighbourhood food drive near you, or organize one of your own!

Simple & Safe

To help with physical distancing measures, neighbourhood boxes are set up outside. Neighbourhood Food Drive hosts set up drop-off boxes safely on their front step, and neighbours bring non-perishable food or personal hygiene items and place it in the box. That's it!

The Time is Now

Because of the persistance of COVID-19, the need for support continues to grow. But people love to get involved with meaningful community projects like these. Make the opportunity available to your neighbours. Amazing things can happen when we come together to make CK a safe and thriving community.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

Organize a food drive in your neighbourhood

As a community, we have learned that living in God's kingdom includes putting the needs of others ahead of our own. This isn't something that happens automatically, but something that we do very purposefully. With this need, we have an opportunity to put what we are learning into practice.

We want to facilitate several neighbourhood food drives within our community. Together, we can turn a small effort into a huge impact for the Food Banks and for the people they serve.

By working within our own neighbourhoods we can multiply the efforts and increase the response.

And how to stay safe

Stay Safe

The COVID-19 virus poses a very serious risk for some people. Throughout this food drive, please be responsible and practice physical distancing while using appropriate levels of hand hygiene. Reinforcing these measures will help to support both the efforts to flatten the COVID-19 curve and the Food Banks.

Contact-Free Flyer Delivery

For easy flyer delivery, punch a hole in the corner, attach a string prior to delivering flyers, then loop the string on mailboxs or door handles. This will help you to avoid touching those surfaces, and still get the word out.

Arrange for Pickup

Some of your neighbours may be unable to walk to your house, but still want to participate. Consider giving them your phone number and having them "fill a bag” that they leave on their front porch for you to pick up. This is a great contact-free option so everyone can contribute.

Preferred Food Items

Food Banks are always looking for non-perishable food items. While every contribution is gratefully accepted, there is always a strong need for canned meat and canned fruit. For a complete list please visit Outreach For Hunger or Food Banks Canada.

Preferred Hygiene Items

Personal hygiene items are essential and urgently needed. Products like toilet paper and diapers are always needed, along with deodorant and disposable razors. For a complete list please visit Outreach For Hunger or Food Banks Canada.

Repeat Often

Once a neighbourhood food drive successfully runs its course, there is always the option to do it again! Or, get creative with your neighbours and find other ways to harness the power of community for the benefit of those less fortunate than us. The sky is the limit!
